BASIC WASH RECOMMENDATIONS

Consider making your basic wash a cold, short 20-30 min cycle, with a concentrated eco powder detergent followed by hang dry. Invest in mesh bags to protect your delicates in the wash cycle, a large drying rack, a high powered handheld steamer and a rechargeable sweater shaver. Next time you upgrade your tumble dryer, get one with a steam cycle. Do your clothes a favor and look up Martha Stewart's Stain Guide, it's the real deal.

ARAN CARDIGAN, BLACK ALPACA & FOUNDATION SWEATER

Machine Airing: use a short, low heat steam cycle on your dryer. Hand Washing: Soak in Eucalan in tepid water. Do not rinse, do not wring. Roll in a towel to remove excess water. Machine Washing: place in large mesh bag. Use the "hand wash" or "delicate" cycle. Cold water. Low agitation. Low spin. No rinse. Roll in towel to remove excess water. Blocking/Drying: Place a dry towel over a clothing rack, block (reshape) to dry. You may block your sweater to make it a little longer or wider. Shave to maintain surface after drying. If using the sweater stone use very light pressure in small circles. Yes, it takes a while, audio book? Do not use the sweater stone on the Black Alpaca as it will leave residue. Use an electric shaver. Darning: write us at info@fourobjects.com and we'll send you some yarn to fix it. Naturally protect your clothes from moths.

Prevention first. Before placing items in your closet, heat or freeze it, depending on the material. Then, wash and store it properly. Abrupt changes in temperature can kill moths, as does heat. Cedar and lavender are age-old moth-prevention tools. Use cedar blocks or essential lavender oil wherever you store your clothes (and wool blankets).

If you’re noticing moths in your closet or holes in your sweater, below are some non-toxic options:

Freeze, heat, and store: Using the freezing or heating method, go through each item in your closet and meticulously clean them. Try to think of it as a fun, decluttering exercise. Once your cleaned clothes are dried, store anything you aren’t wearing regularly in vacuum-sealed bags. Moths cannot eat through plastic. Before vacuum-sealing, we recommend tossing in some cedar chips or lavender for good measure.

Clean your closet: Vacuum, sweep, and wash the floor and walls with a natural vinegar wash to get rid of any eggs or larvae.

Lay pheromone traps: Non-toxic traps work by attracting male moths with pheromones. Adult moths get stuck to the trap, interrupting the breeding cycle. Swap out every 2-3 months.

Declutter: Moths love undisturbed clothes pushed at the bottom of your drawer. By owning fewer clothes and rotating your wardrobe regularly, you can disturb breeding cycles and prevent damage.
