Intentionality is at the foundation of everything we make at FOUR.
At 4, we are committed to refining a business model that reflects our values as women, for women. When we create a new piece for your collection, our first intention is to make something of high quality and low environmental impact that will last a long time, be loved, repaired, and passed down. As we choose partners, we look for responsible makers, at home and abroad, that share our values, choosing incredible people (mostly women, but also wonderful men) to work with. And finally, we donate 44% back to our community of makers.
FOUR CODE OF CONDUCT
Our Code
Applies to all our partners, agents, vendors, manufacturers, factories and subcontractors. This Code states our intentions about how we do business. When a difference or conflict arises, our partners are expected to follow the highest standard and that which favors the employees.
Artisanal Worker’s
While we do not approve the use of unauthorized subcontracting, we do appreciate the importance and legacy of artisanal non-traditional workers. Our code addresses social and environmental conditions and all partners must comply with applicable local laws and regulations regardless of where they work.
Above All Local Law
Employers shall adopt and adhere to rules and conditions of employment that respect workers. Safeguarding their rights under local, national, and international labor and social security laws and regulations, including assurance that uphold ethics and that corruption policies are in place. ..
We are all equal
Our partners may not discriminate against its employees during any stage of employment on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, color, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, medical condition, political opinion, union affiliation, social group, marital status, pregnancy or any other classification protected by local, national, and international law. Partners are required to treat all employees with respect and dignity. No employee shall be subject to physical, sexual, psychological or verbal harassment or abuse or to monetary fines as a disciplinary practice.
How we work
All partners’ employees must be free to join an organization of their own choosing. This includes the right to form and join worker organizations and participate in collective bargaining without fear of harassment, interference, or retaliation. Our partners must not use involuntary or forced labor, whether indentured, bonded, prison or labor obtained through slavery or human trafficking. Workers must not be required to lodge deposits or identity papers upon commencing employment with any partner. Partners will not employ anyone under the age of 15 or under the age for compulsory completion of education or whichever is higher. The regular work week shall not exceed 48 hours, or the maximum allowed by the law of the country of manufacture, whichever is less. Employees shall be allowed at least 24 consecutive hours of rest in every seven-day period. All overtime work shall be consensual and free from reprisal if declined. Employers shall not request overtime on a regular basis and shall compensate all overtime work at a premium rate. The sum of regular and overtime hours in a week shall not exceed 60 hours or the maximum allowed by the law of the county of manufacture, whichever is less.
Environment
We do business with partners who share our commitment to protecting the environment. We ask all partners to commit to reducing the impacts their manufacturing has on the environment. Partners must comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations where they do business and undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
Animal Welfare
Partners must respect and commit to promoting ethical animal welfare practices with a focus on the five freedoms. We believe that all such animals, while considering their species’ needs, should benefit from freedom from thirst, discomfort, pain injury or disease, fear and distress and have the freedom to behave naturally. Our expectations follow national and international animal welfare, social and environmental laws and regulations.
Community
We encourage and align with suppliers who like ourselves who are engaged in their communities and favor those who empower women as leaders. By creating education opportunities, we take a leadership position alongside our suppliers in promoting social development in the communities where we work and live.

Fair Labor Practices
We ensure that all employees and contractors are treated fairly and respectfully, and that their rights are protected in accordance with international labor standards.
We prohibit the use of forced labor, child labor, or any form of exploitative labor practices within the company's value chain. (See Supplier Code of Conduct)
Environmental Responsibility
We commit to minimizing the company's environmental footprint by promoting sustainable practices throughout our communities, including responsible sourcing of materials, reducing waste, and energy efficiency.
We encourage the development and use of low impact materials and production methods. And strive to reduce waste through our repair and recycling programs.

We regular review this policy to ensure we are aligned with legal requirements and maintain transparency in our processes.
